Costa Rica Wildlife Rescue

Join us for a talk that goes inside the daily work of Rescate Wildlife Rescue Center in Costa Rica. You'll learn about the incredible process of rescuing and rehabilitating over 3,000 wild animals each year, from sloths and jaguars to monkeys and birds. The talk will also highlight Rescate's role in the breeding and reintroduction of endangered species and the provision of lifetime care for non-releasable animals. Jeanne Marie Pittman, Rescate's Director of Conservation Programs will share stories of successful reintroduction, including globally threatened species like the Geoffroy's spider monkey, and the Yellow-naped Amazon Parrot at the center's two dedicated release sites. Ultimately, this presentation will show how Rescate is helping to protect and restore Costa Rica's biodiversity for generations to come.
Jeanne Marie Pittman's passionate career in conservation has taken her across the globe, where her work has had a profound impact. Her extensive experience includes managing an elephant orphanage in Zambia, leading a successful crane reintroduction program in South Africa, and directing the research team that rediscovered a critically endangered monkey in Ghana. She was also instrumental in a petition that revised Costa Rican wildlife laws, mandating accreditation for rescue centers. More recently, as Conservation Programs Director at Rescate, she has been deeply involved in developing and implementing critical programs focused on wildlife rehabilitation and endangered species breeding and reintroduction.
